Captain Hog on the
75th Democracy Festival in Berlin
An educational game about sustainability and creation
Communicating democratic values
To mark the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, a festival of democracy took place in Berlin from May 24 to 26. Numerous political and civil society institutions offered a program around the Federal Chancellery and the Paul Löbe House of the German Bundestag.
At the stand of the German Bishops’ Conference, QM Interactive presented a prototype of “Captain Hog’s Island Adventure” to the public for the first time. The educational game addresses sustainability, environmental responsibility and the preservation of creation in a playful way.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who discovered our game during a tour, was enthusiastic and Minister of the Interior Nancy Faser showed great interest in the many opportunities to impart knowledge through play.
Captain Hog’s Island Adventure is a mixture of simulation, planning and role-playing game with a didactic background. It was developed for a young audience between the ages of six and fourteen. The young players take on the role of the Caribbean pirate Captain Hog and have the important task of saving the indigenous peoples of a tropical island.
Politics, church and citizens: fun connects!
Serious games with added educational value help to convey cultural content and promote understanding in a living democracy.
75 years of the Basic Law
What an important event for democracy in the heart of Europe!
We at QM Interactive have the great honor of being invited by the German Bishops’ Conference to present our game “Captain Hog’s Island Adventure”, which we developed together with Unger & Fiedler, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of our Basic Law from 24.05. – 26.05.24 at the Federal Chancellery.
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz posted our meeting on Instagram, which was particularly flattering for us. We were also visited by Bishop Oster (diocese of Passau), Archbishop Dr. Heiner Koch (Berlin) and Bishop Dr. Gerhard Feige (Magdeburg), who, like many children and young people from the target group, tested us with enthusiasm.
Explaining interrelationships, conveying democratic values and making an important contribution to digital education has a lot of potential. We are working on various topics, such as the playful exploration of socially relevant topics relating to prevention, education, media skills, sustainability and career guidance – we are currently receiving a great deal of encouragement from politicians and society.
